This first-ever recording of the complete output for violin and piano by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer William Bolcom is the latest project by American Double, Philip Ficsor, violin and Constantine Finehouse, piano. Bolcom described the recording as a “benchmark for performers”. Ficsor has also written a book on performing these works and is an editorial advisor for publication through E. B. Season Highlights
The 2010-2011 season features Ficsor in a performance of Viktor Ullmann's String Quartet no. 3 (written while the composer was interned at Theresienstadt internment camp in 1944) at UC-Santa Barbara (Oct. 14), Brahms' Horn Trio with American Double and Steve Gross, Horn professor at UCSB (November 6 and 10), as well as appearances at the Santa Barbara Music Club (October 23 and March 19). On November 20 and 21, Ficsor will appear with the Santa Barbara Master Chorale Orchestra in a performance of Mozart's Violin Concerto in A, K. 219.

Philip Ficsor, an enthusiastic advocate for contemporary American composers, recently released his third recording, “Summer Day”, featuring the complete works for violin and piano of Emma Lou Diemer, with the composer at the keyboard. His recording of William Bolcom’s complete works for violin and piano with American Double was “strongly recommended” by Fanfare Magazine and The Strad called his playing of Bolcom’s Suite for Solo Violin “beautifully managed and well-prepared”. Since the Fall of 2006, he has been teaching as Assistant Professor of Violin (tenure-track) at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California.Continue
